Not a true pine tree, the Norfolk Island Pine (also called the Norfolk Pine, Star Pine, and Polynesian Pine) is native to Norfolk Island in the Pacific Ocean. Large numbers of these trees are produced in South Florida as houseplants although this particular tree was wild and free. Some areas of Florida prohibit planting the Norfolk Pine as it’s at greater risk of falling after a lightening strike (which we have a lot of during summer thunderstorms).
