The Eastern Lubber Grasshopper, also known as the Florida Lubber Grasshopper, are voracious eaters and can grow to 3 inches in length. That’s the size of my index finger- they are big! The Lubber Grasshopper does have a neat defensive mechanism where they secrete a foul-smelling and foul-tasting foamy substance from their thorax. Unfortunately, a swath of the country is dealing with an overabundance of grasshoppers who love the hot, dry conditions of late.
